Rat Pack Revisited
September 1, 2005
What a day. What a night. What a feeling. What a sensation! When I went to the Giants game and Irish night at SBC with Al Shull a few weeks back, Shull and I talked about a show that was playing in the city that paid tribute to the Rat Pack. The Tribute – to Frank, Sammy, Joey and Dean, is basically a recreation of the famous shows that the rat pack put on in Vegas while filming the ORIGINAL Ocean’s Eleven back in the 1960’s. We decided to check it out and do it.
We did the Saturday matinee yesterday then stayed for dinner in the city. Great time all around! Shulls arrived at our house around 1pm and we head to Union City BART for the train ride into the city. Off at Powell Street station for a nice four block walk up to the Post Street Theater. A beautiful, sunny day in the city with people EVERYWHERE. The line for the Powell Street cable car stretched half way up the block. Fifteen minutes of walking and we were at the theater. We had about 25 minutes til show time so we ducked into a nice little bar next door and had a cocktail before the show. With about ten minutes to show time we headed next door. The Theater is actually in the same building and on the second floor of the Kensington Park Hotel. Cool, funky, old building just a half block up from Union Square.
