Weekend change of plans

Dsc03484 Our original weekend plans were killed by the cold weather. we had planned on driving to Solvang on Friday and then ride the Solvang century (actually a 50 miler). we were spying the weather all week. Near freezing morning temps, thunder storms rain and 20 mph winds made us think twice and we canceled. I’m glad we did. It gave me a chance to go the the CSUEB water polo game against Sonoma State on Friday, then to AHS to watch Kate swim against Mt Eden.P3110012  Staci came with Jack and Emma on Friday night so we had a house full. Saturday morning was the Newark Relays, held this year at the AHS pool. Barb and Kate were then off to prom dress shop. That night we went out to dinner with Marie and Ron at Silver Palate Restaurant then to a comedy show featuring Mark Pitta. Sunday was a kick back day except that we all went over to Barb’s sister Sarah’s for dinner. Her and Cathy prepared a great feast. We had a great visit. All in all a good weekend. Much better than a freezing rainy windy bike ride.

Somewhere…..

After complaining mightily about the dastardly weather we’ve been having lately, and the fact that Barb and I continue to go out in it,  to various girls sporting events, yesterday brought us to the AHS Gygax Swim Center where Kate was swimming against  the NMH Cougars. Weather in the 60s at 3:30, but rain rain rain kept coming on down. Towards sunset, the sun peaked under the clouds giving us a brief respite. Treated to a couple of nice rainbows. This one, caught with the new camera phone, actually bowed from behind the swim center at one end and what look like over Newpark Mall at the other.

March Madness/ Brad Pitt

Dsc03567_1 Not huge basketball fans in our family, but with the the winter weather pelting us this past weekend, we did catch a bit of high-def round ball. The most interesting from my point of view was the Pittsburg/Bradley matchup.

Dog House

Dsc03555 Barb’s sister was heading to the snow this last weekend so she asked Kate to watch her three dogs. Rather than travel back and forth to San Leandro, we brought Cricket, Peanut and Buddy to our house. Needless to say, the dynamic of the house changed with three guests but it was still fun (for us, not Niya or Luke). Here is a shot of the “gang of three” getting some sun.

COYOTE HILLS LANDSLIDE

Dsc03525 Finally a couple of days of sun! The end of winter is proving to be stubborn. Not giving up its grip on the cold wind rain (and SNOW!!). Yesterday however proved to be pretty nice. Sunny and not too cold. With just the normal mid-day wind for Fremont.  Kelly (HAPPY BIRTHDAY HONEY!!) is in SoCal playing polo.  Barb took Kate to her work to catch up on some filing, so I had the chance to sneak out for a quick ride.  Hadn’t been in the saddle for a few weeks so I only planned a short ride.Dsc03527  After I got out on the trail I stretched it into a 21 miler. Along side Ardonwood Historic farm then a few city blocks to Coyote hills. Onto Alameda creek trail and the final two miles out to the end of the bay. Back onto the Bayview Trail and the backside of coyote. There a bit of an old  landslide that started sliding again.  Taking out a bit of the trail. Up Heart Attack Hill then back home the long way on the Creek Trail.  Nice ride!

Banner Shot

After a couple of years of the same, old, tired,  website design,  I’m shaking things up a bit by putting up a new banner.   Although the “OUR LIFE” shot will take the back shelf for a while, the latest shot is worthy of publishing.  A black and white pic of Monterey Bay on a winter’s day, taken from UC Santa Cruz two weeks ago during a break in water polo play.
