What happens in Vegas……2008

Picture_127 Can’t really tell too much about last weekend’s trip to Vegas.

I can tell you we saw Van Halen at Mandalay Bay.

I can tell you  we had a great dinner at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill.

Everything else stays in Vegas.  Anything more would generate too many questions.

Picture_120Example:   Saturday night we ate dinner at Benihana  with  a Las Vegas  tattoo artist and his dog groomer girlfriend.  During some polite dinner conversation, we learned that the tatoo artist was the son of famed clown, Ronald McDonald.  HUH? WHAT?

Additionally,  we think we may have inadvertently insulted our chef, who then proceeded to give us all food poisoning.  WHY? HOW?

See what I mean?  Too many questions!

And thats just one dinner!

That first step is a doozy

Picture_008_2 The pups are keeping us pretty busy these days. They are so damn small and so damn cute! They love to play around on the front lawn. Stumbling and a bumbling, wrestling and just having a grand old time

Who would’ve thought that the little step up to our front porch would be an obstacle. Mali was the first to get up that first step. Bruno has yet to make it. This pic is a video grab from a few days ago when Mali took her first step.  Note Bruno. Thats as far as he can go.

Check out the video!

Our Everest

There is a show on Discovery Channel called “Everest – Beyond the Limit”.  About people trying to conquer earth’s tallest peak.  Barb and I have often said that Mission Peak was “our Everest”.

At mom’s birthday party a few weeks ago, my sister agreed to come down for a hike. Even had young Matt Flaherty interested in our Half Dome Hike (“I’m in”) and doing a Mission Peak hike as well  (“in!”) . After a few back and forth emails we decided on this last Saturday. Beautiful morning greeted us. Anne Marie and Matt showed up right on time at 9am. We picked up team Vandenbusch and were off to the Ohlone trail head and up Chalk Hill by 9:30.  No slackers in this bunch as we made our way steadily up up up.  Stopped to rest a bit at the usual spots and was able to share with both Anne Marie and Matt some general information (you can see the 4 tallest peaks in the bay area from Mission Peak – Loma Prieta, Diablo, Tam and Hamilton) as well as our personal hiking history on Mission Peak.

We finished the hike in groups. Matt and Vicky V were first up (no surprise there), then Steve, then me, then Anne Marie and Barb. Four Flahertys on the peak!  A NEW RECORD!   Had a nice break up top,  ate our snacks, enjoyed each others company, and took in the view.  We talked about Half Dome. How it will be a challenge.  Twice as hard and twice as long as Mission Peak,  not to mention the difference in altitude. I guess Half Dome is our new “Everest”!
