Father Larry\’s Wood
A few years ago, Al Shull and I embarked on a mission to get some free firewood. There was a felled tree in the back yard of the priest house at the old St Leonard Church and school. Somehow (Debbie’s doing) Al and I got permission to go back there with a log splitter and commence to get’n some wood. Must of been a 60 ft tree that fell. It had been cut into huge disks by someone and left for at least a year or two. All we had to do was roll them disks over to the splitter and split’m. Easier said than done I’ll tell ya that much. Some of those suckers were HUGE and must of weighed a few hundred pounds easy. Shull and I spent a long hard day at the woodpile in the back of the priest house. The pastor at the time, Father Larry, even came out and blessed us and the wood . From that point on we started referring to the wood as Father Larry’s wood. I burned most of what I had that year and part of the next. The next cord I bought buried part of Father Larrys wood until this Winter. Put a couple of pieces of Father Larry’s wood on the fire last night and thought about the good ol days choppin wood with Shull. Father Larry went on to become the Bishop of Honolulu and all the Hawaiian Islands, but his wood lives on in Fremont. For a few more burns anyway.
