What a weekend….
What a weekend….
Friday afternoon was the first swim meet of the season. Kate and Kelly are both on the team at American High School. two and one half hours of very competitive high school swimming. The highlight for me was Kate swimming the 500 freestyle and coming in second place. She has really come back from the shoulder injury that cut short her swim season last year. Plus, the 500 freestyle, a long distance swim, is one that all Flahertys should excel in. It reminds me of swimming the length of the old Fleishhacker pool in San Francisco
Saturday Morning I drove Kelly to Sacramento where she played Soccer with the Fremont Extreme in the “TIDE AMERICAS CUP” for under 19 girls division IV players. Morning game was a brutal 2-1 loss against the Shooting stars from El Dorado Hills. Kelly scored the goal for the Extreme with a beautiful header off an indirect kick. GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
Also Saturday morning, Kate was swimming competitivly again, This time in the Annual Newark Relays. A High school “all relay” swim meet featuring all 7 schools in the MVAL (mission vally atheltic league) She Swam in a 500 meter relay with 3 other girls.
Barb and Kate then drove up to Sac to watch the afternoon game Against RIPTIDE from Manteca. Another great game which ended in a 1-1 tie. By the way, this tournement was actually in “North Highlands” at the Cherry Island Soccer complex. A nice place, out in the middle of nowhere.
We spent the night at the Lyon’s Gate Hotel with the rest of the team. The hotel used to be part of McClellan Air Force Base. The whole base has been convterted to a business park with hotel, movies shopping etc.
The third and final game of the TIDE CUP was at 2PM Sunday against the Red hot chili peppers from Alameda. We Scored first and were dominating them in the first half. They got a lucky goal in the second half and we settled for another tie. The silver lining in this game was that the “peppers” were until then, undefeated. They thought they were “all that” until they got a healthy dose of Fremont Extreme.
Then it was time hit the road for home with 10 million others who were coming home from the snow.
what a weekend!
