Eagles Win League Opener

Eaglelogo_1 After a long pre-season which saw the lady Eagles play a total of 9 games (4 tournament games, 3 non-league, 2 scrimmage), The girls started league play with a thrilling victory over Mission San Jose.

Here is the article from this mornings Argus:

Dubay’s header powers American
Late goal wins thriller over Mission San Jose

STAFF REPORTS

FREMONT — Lauren Dubay’s goal with three minutes remaining gave the American High girls soccer team a thrilling 2-1 victory Thursday over visiting Mission San Jose.

Dubay timed a cross pass from Christy Locke and headed the ball into the net for the game-winner. Locke also assisted Lauren Pimentel’s header in the first half to give the Eagles (1-0 Mission Valley Athletic League) a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors (0-2) tied it up 12 minutes into the second half off a goal by Sarah Steele.

The contest was evenly played, with both teams taking 16 shots on goal and both Mission goalie Danielle Anderson and American goalie Kate Flaherty recording eight saves each.

Im002035 It really was a great game with both of our goals coming off headers on a crossing pass in front of the opposing goal. Its funny. Kate really didn’t play yesterday. But her and the other goalie look so much alike that they are often mistaken for eachother. They look more like sisters than Kelly and Kate. We all got a good laugh when we saw Kate’s name in the paper this morning.

Eagles Win Big Over JFK

From the mornings Fremont Argus:

American 8, Kennedy 0

Christie Locke scored five goals, all in the first half, to lead  first-place American to a win over visiting Kennedy (0-3).The Eagles (2-0) struck for six goals in the first half, the   other coming from Lauren Dubay. Lauren Pimentel had a goal and two assists for the Eagles.

Jim’s Note:  Not much offense on the Kennedy side of things. Gabby played keeper in the first half and I don’t think she even had a touch. Kate played 2nd half and had two touches. Katherine from Fremont Extreme was playing for Kennedy, as was Kate’s friend Jackie from the St Leonard days. The American girls looked good out there. They have a BIG game Thursday against Barb’s Alma Matter, The Irvington Vikings.  With a first week bye followed by two wins, the Lady Eagles are in first place. What makes it interesting is that these girls can compete with anyone in the league this year. Its gonna be FUN!

In JV action, the American girls won 7-0. We rock!

Eagle Soccer

Goalie_5 The girls played a great game in frigid conditions against Irvington yesterday. Irvington is one of the better teams in the MVAL so this was a good test for our girls. We scored first and went into the half with a 1-0 lead. The Vikings evened the score in the second half and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The lady Eagles go into the Christmas break still undefeated and in first place. The schedule will get a lot tougher when they get back from holiday. The next three games will determine what these girls are made of. Newark, Washington and Logan were the top three teams in the league last year. ITS GONNA BE FUN!!

Here is the article from the this mornings ARGUS
