Dinner in the City – Fringale
One of the joys in life is eating good food with good friends. We had the opportunity to do both this weekend as we headed to the city with Claudia and Armando. The destination was Fringale, a South of Market French bistro that Armando had enjoyed before and recommended.
From the Fringale website:
Fringale, which means “the urge to eat,” has been a major contributor to San Francisco’s South of Market culinary renaissance. J.B. Lorda opened the restaurant thirteen years ago and it has remained a favorite dining spot for food lovers, socialites, politicians, artists and out-of-town celebrities, and journalists.
We had early dinner reservations which worked out nicely. Fringale is a small, nice and seemigly very popular place. About 15 tables and a small bar, nicely decorated too. The service was also very good. We started with a couple of cocktails and an appetizer of Foie gras confit on baguette with onion, apple and tamarind marmalade. A basket of baquettes made for a good start to an incredble meal. Barb and I shared a Dungeness Crab salad with apple celery remoulade. Very Good! The entres arrived shortly thereafter. We all kind of shared what we ordered. Armando and I had halibut, Barb had salmon and Claudia had some awsome roasted chicken. All very good, prepared and presented wonderfully.
We all got desert and coffee. Barb’s Berries and beaujolais compote with fromage blanc sorbet(Fresh berries cooked with beaujolais and vanilla served with a refreshing sorbet), Claudia and Mando’s Warm chocolate Gourmand (Flourless chocolate cake served with a mint sorbet), and my Mme. Angèle’s Gateau Basque (Dense almond torte filled with a layer of custard cream ) It dont get any better!!
The place was filling up as we were enjoying eachothers company and finishing our coffee. Time got away from us because the manager came up and asked if he could buy us a drink at the bar. He really needed our table. So we moved to the bar and had a nightcap before heading back home. All in all a great evening. We will return to Fringale again!
Check out what Armando had to say about the evening over at Lopezwerks.
