The Backstroker

WHO DA THUNK?

A couple of weeks ago Kelly decided to try her luck in the backstroke. In her few short years of competitive swimming she has always been a great “freestyler”. Turns out that one of the girl’s varsity backstrokers was out that day so Kelly decided to fill her spot “just for fun” How fun was it? Kelly smoked most of the field, beat the other American High backstrokers handily, and almost beat the number one varsity backstroker for Newark Memorial !!  Everyone was surprised, including Kelly.  She was never more tired from swimming and sore as heck the next day. Coach Gygax, sensing opportunity,  made Kelly a (the) backstroker that day. Since then she has improved on her time in the couple more times she raced. Her two “new” events are the 100m backstroke and the stroker in the medley relay.  Way to go Kel.
