TP\’d in the Dark of Night – Part II

Dsc04075 Dsc04074aWoke up Sunday morning and found that the girls soccer team had paid us a little visit in the middle of the night to say their own special goodbye to Kate. Apparently they visited all the Seniors and TP’d them as well. We should have expected this since it happened last year to Kelly.

Soccer Banquet

Dsc03430aa Went to the end of season soccer banquet last night. JV and Varsity girls and all the families at school for Hawaiian luau and awards night. A nice bunch of girls on both teams. A nice night all around.  Here is a great picture of young Kate as she introduces one of her team mates.

It was a great year watching Kate in the goalie box.

Thanks for the memories!

Goodbye Senior Girls

Dsc03191  Night before last we headed over to the AHS gym for the official “goodbye” to the outgoing seniors on the soccer team. During normal times, this would have been done at the last home game of the year. These days, with all home games played at TAK, the coach decided to host the awards in the AHS gym during halftime at one of the basketball games. It turned out to be a pretty nice little ceremony.  A full crowd on hand to watch American and Logan slug it out. The whole soccer team was center court at half time to honor Kate, Sappi, Melissa and Michelle. Dsc03184Kyle and I escorted Kate to center court where the girls gave them each a nice bouquet of flowers, a remembrance lei, signed by the team, and the picture above. The coach then said a few words about each of the outgoing senior girls. He had some real nice words about Kate. How she has played soccer for AHS all four years. The last two as a varsity keeper. How she battled back from off season knee surgery to make the team and share starting duty with Gabbi. He also noted that Kate had 8 varsity shut-outs. The crowd went wild! YOU GO GIRL!!

With Kate’s last game, so ends our involvement in prep (and youth)  soccer.  What a great great GREAT ride its been for us. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing our kids excel in sports, learn teamwork and team pride, and all the positive that goes with playing team sports.  Kate and Kelly have both been on some great (and not so great) teams over the years and have supplied Barb and I with a lifetime of great soccer memories. THANKS GIRLS

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JIMSJOINT

Im000389aaaTwo short years ago today, with inspiration from Big Al over at ChampagneCrew,  Jimsjoint was born on the web. The original Jim’s Joint however was born in San Francisco in the early 1900’s. Grandpa Jim Hurley, his son Jim, and now yours truly, pose behind the counter at Jim’s Joint. You could buy smokes, candy and even play some cards and have a hard drink in the back room. The virtual jimsjoint was started to document our bike rides and hikes and tell what we are doing with the kids. Our life and times. Anyone who does a blog can tell that “keeping it up” over time is a challenge. I’d like to thank the handful of readers who stop by to check things out.

East Coast Swing

Dsc03348 Kelly got back Monday night from her Maryland trip. Playing water polo against some East coast division 1 teams. They played five games in two days and even got in a little sight-seeing in our nation’s capitol. The CSUEB ladies recorded their first ever victory against a division 1 opponent, beating Sienna College 8-7.  YOU GO LADIES!!

Dsc03300 Little did the team know that they would be arriving on the east coast just in time for the storm of the year to hit. Two feet of snow on Saturday night and freezing temps all weekend made for some great memories. Sounds like the team really came together, played some solid polo, and prepared themselves for the REAL season that starts this weekend in Santa Cruz.

Kelly took a ton of pictures. Take a peek here.

CSUEB Splits at Slugfest

Dsc03410_1 Spent most of the weekend in Santa Cruz watching Kelly and the CSUEB women play in the annual Santa Cruz slugfest. The 8am start on Saturday meant we had to leave the house before 7am. Forecast of rain, freezing temps and snow in higher elevations made for one of those “twice a decade” snowy rides over the hill into Santa Cruz. The Slugfest, hosted at UC Santa Cruz would make for a nice trip on a summers day. On this winters day however, it was more like how we prepare for soccer games. Long johns, layers of clothes, winter Dsc03398_1 coats and winter gear (gloves, head warmers, hats) and umbrella. With high school soccer season just ending, we are used to sitting out in the cold and watching sports, but we are still trying to get used to winter water polo. The steam was rising off the pool as we settled into our stadium chairs for a very chilly game against the Colorado State University Rams. The Division 1 Rams were good and CSUEB had them early. Ahead 5-2 at one point. The Pioneer women ended up losing a heartbreaker 6-5.
