Rock Stacking at the Bus Stop
The boys and I always take a mid-ride break near a make-shift bench way out on the levy road that runs between Coyote Hills and the end of the Alameda Creek Trail. As mentioned before, its about as close as you can get to the middle of nowhere and still be smack dab in the middle of 4 million people that surround the bay. When we first started to take our breaks out there, we would throw rocks into the water (or mud, depending on the tide) or try to hit a stick that was sticking out of the mud. We found a metal ring and hung it on the stick and tried to throw rocks through the ring. When someone took the ring and broke the sticks we decided to build something that would be harder to tear down.
So, on every ride we have gone on since, we have thrown a couple of rocks onto a pile that sits out on the mud during low tide. Slowly but surely, ride after ride and rock after rock, our little rock pile is beginning to grow. We throw a couple rocks on, some small, some medium, and few large (too heavy!!) I think our ultimate goal is to have the rocks clear the water line during high tide. Oh what a day that will be!
The last few times out (and before we leave) we have started to stack em high in hopes that they would survive the winds and tides (and rock throwers?!). Everytime we come back the stack is toppled. But that only makes the base stronger!
