Back to Niles

Im004106 Since before July 2002, the Alameda Creek Trail at Mission Blvd had been closed so Cal Trans could work on widening the Mission overpass. It cut short one of our favorite rides. This was our short, (after work) ride. We would get on the creek trail at Isherwood and head down towards Niles Canyon. At the end of the trail, we would hop on city streets and do the Steinhammer Loop. Adds another mile to the ride and gives us just a little bit of hill work. 11 miler that we could do in 50 minutes or so. 9 miles worth of trail makes it a good ride. Since the trail had been closed, we didn’t go down this way very much. When the projected opening of July 2004 rolled around, we were excited. Unfortunately the date came and went without the trail opening. Months went by without it opening. We would ride down that way every once in a while to see (and hope) that the trail would be open. Went that way yesterday and found that it had finally been reopened. For how long I do not know, but I’m glad that its open. After more that 2 1/2 years we can finally get back to one of our favorite rides. BOUT TIME!!
