WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

\"Scan0004_2\" This weekend was the Directors Cup for FC Fremont under 19 girls. For the first time ever there are four U19 girls teams in Fremont so they decided to add the girls to the annual Directors Cup to see who is the best of the best of the Fremont class IV girls . Three games over two days, two on Saturday and one on Sunday, to determine the U19 champion.  One of the girls teams figured they weren\’t worthy so they dropped out before it even began. In their place was the district U16 class III champions, the Fremont Fusion.

\"Im001874_5\" On a crisp, clear, cold (and I mean cold) and windy (and I mean windy!) morning, the Extreme girls, fresh off of the division championship,  opened tournament play against the Pumas. It was apparent early that this was not going to be much of a contest. The best girls on the Pumas were a couple of Kate\’s old classmates from St. Leonard\’s, Ashley and Natalie. They had fun playing against each other but the Extreme was superior and finished the first game with an 8-0 victory. I should note that Extreme played most of this game with only 7 players, against the full 11 players on the Pumas\’ side.

The Second game was played that afternoon against the Fremont Fusion, the U16 Class III champions who had been invited to play when the other U19 team dropped out due to lack of interest (fear). The Fusion has a real good team and although they were playing with 11 players against our 8, they could still not penetrate our defense and were handed a 3-0 loss.

The final game was played Sunday against the Flamingos. All our girls needed was a tie or win to claim the 1st place trophy. The best and most physical game of the three. We got lucky and had 10 players show up against the Flamingos who could only field 9. That came back to haunt them as Extreme played nearly flawless soccer in a 4-1 victory.

\"Im003637b\" Immediately after the game the trophies were awarded. The league director acknowledged our girls as the first U19 team from Fremont to ever win a division! That, along with a solid victory in the Directors Cup made for a great great season!

\"Im003641\" Kate again played great keeper. She improves every game and is always amazing us by making outstanding saves. She dives for balls and pushes them just far enough to miss the goal. She charges the ball when opposing players are coming at her full speed.  After one great save against the Fusion on Saturday, I could here one fan remark, \”that\’s an awesome goalie!\” Kelly played great soccer all weekend. She scored  5 goals and had numerous assists. What was amazing about our offense this weekend was the fact that we were so short handed that on many occasions it was Kelly and Sapna on offense against 5 or 6 defenders, and they still scored!  Of course, the victories and championships this year were not all Kate and Kelly. This is a great team with lots of individual talent. Everyone contributes and plays real well together. The defense is great on this team. They play tough, they play physical and they are fast enough to catch ANY opposing forward who thinks they can out run us. The Offense really knows how to play. They communicate well, play into each others strengths and play well together. That goes for the girls that weren\’t here for the tournament, Katherine and Nicole. We missed them. It was fun watching these girls this year.

WOOT!!
