First Place Eagles Win Again
First Place Eagles Win Again
The American High Lady Eagles continued their winning ways today with a 1-0 victory over the Newark Memorial Cougars. Rain fell for most of the game making the ball slick and the already saturated field even more so. The Eagles started in fine form by putting pressure on early in the match. The ball was mostly on the Cougar side of the field for most of the first half. Sapna Sethi had a great shot that went high just over the post, then a few minutes later found herself again in front of the goal and was able to put it in. GOAL!!!! The Eagles went into the half with a 1-0 lead. The Cougars came out in the second half determined to even the score. They constantly put the pressure on by keeping the ball in Eagle territory for most of the 2nd half.
Several shots on goal were denied by the Eagle defense, including a couple of nail biters that looked for sure like they were going to go in. The Eagle girls played great defense and time after time cleared the ball. The win gives the American girls a 3-0-1 record and first place in MVAL play. The game this Thursday against arch rival Washington may be the game of the year and at the very least, a pivotal match in determining who is the team to beat this year in the Mission Valley Athletic League. So far it looks like our girls are the real deal. In JV action, the American girls lost a 1-0 heartbreaker. A great game at 0-0 until the final minute when the Cougars put one in the Eagles goal on a corner kick.
